Minnesota’s Tim Walz loses home county to Trump in election upset

In a significant blow to the Democratic ticket, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, vice presidential candidate alongside Kamala Harris, lost his home county of Blue Earth to Donald Trump. Trump captured 49.6% of the vote in the county where Walz built his political career, compared to Harris’s 48.3%.

The result is a setback for Walz, who rose to prominence representing Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District and later as governor, positioning himself as a moderate voice. Despite his role in the Harris campaign, Walz faced criticism over past statements about his military service, which the Trump campaign used to question his credibility.

As Democrats assess their losses, Walz has remained out of the public eye, with Harris scheduled to address the nation Wednesday evening.
