Vice President Kamala Harris’ appearance on Saturday Night Live has raised concerns from FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr, who criticized it as a potential violation of the Equal Time rule, aimed at ensuring fair broadcast opportunities for political candidates.
Harris, joined by her on-screen double Maya Rudolph, appeared briefly on the show Saturday, prompting NBC to file an Equal Time notice with the FCC.
In response, NBC aired a brief message from Harris’ rival, former President Donald Trump, during a NASCAR broadcast on Sunday. Trump and other candidates could request comparable airtime under FCC guidelines, though the rule doesn’t mandate identical programming.
