In anticipation of possible unrest surrounding Election Day, National Guard troops have been placed on standby in Washington, Oregon, and Nevada.
Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced the decision on Friday after incidents involving the burning of ballot boxes in his state and Oregon. The activation, set for November 4-7, aims to support law enforcement and protect infrastructure, with the exact number of troops remaining undisclosed.
This move follows an arson attack on a ballot drop box in Vancouver, Washington, and a similar incident in Portland, Oregon, as election security concerns mount.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has also issued a national advisory on election infrastructure threats.
