As Election Day approaches, mental health experts are advising voters on ways to handle pre- and post-election anxiety, with many Americans feeling stressed about the outcome of the 2024 presidential campaign. A recent poll by The Associated Press and the National Opinion Research Center found that about seven in 10 Americans report anxiety or frustration over the election.

Licensed clinical social worker Kathryn DeVinney from Nazareth University suggests strategies for maintaining mental well-being, including spending time with positive people, taking breaks from social media, and practicing self-care. For many, the tension may not end on Election Day, especially if results are delayed. DeVinney emphasizes finding healthy ways to manage emotions, avoiding negative coping strategies, and respecting others’ perspectives regardless of the outcome.

DeVinney encourages those who continue to feel anxious to seek professional help, highlighting that feeling down or frustrated is natural, but prolonged stress should be addressed.
