U.S. intelligence warns of extremist threats tied to 2024 elections

Domestic extremists fueled by conspiracy theories and election-related grievances pose a significant threat to the upcoming 2024 elections, according to reporting by NBC News. The FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) warned state and local law enforcement about potential violence targeting candidates, election officials, and media members throughout the election season and beyond.

The bulletin outlines threats such as physical attacks at polling places, rallies, and voter registration sites. Officials noted that extremists driven by false claims of election fraud have increased online chatter and engaged in violent or illegal activities leading up to Election Day.

DHS spokesperson Mayra Rodriguez emphasized ongoing efforts to collaborate with law enforcement to prevent disruptions. In response, some counties, like Maricopa in Arizona, are implementing heightened security measures, including armed guards and drones, to protect election integrity.
