Longtime Ontario County GOP election chief exits

Mike Northrup, Ontario County’s Republican elections commissioner, announced his retirement after nearly 24 years in the role, citing shifts in the political environment as a key reason.

The Finger Lakes Times reported that Northrup, 62, described the current state of his party as “troubling” and a departure from his values as a “Reagan Republican.”

Reflecting on his career, Northrup emphasized his commitment to public service, recalling highlights such as managing the county’s absentee ballot operations during the 2020 pandemic.

Northrup plans to start a consulting firm to work with candidates who prioritize public service over party politics.
