While taking photos of a blank ballot is permitted, state officials emphasized that photographs revealing vote selections are illegal.
Efforts to revise this restriction, such as Senate Bill S661 which sought to allow ballot selfies in privacy booths, have stalled, failing to advance out of committee.
Currently, 14 states enforce similar bans to prevent voter coercion and ensure confidential voting. As early voting begins on October 26, New York remains committed to safeguarding the electoral process against potential intimidation and vote-buying practices.
