Cayuga County sheriff’s office arrests man for DWI in Summerhill

A Cortland man was arrested after a Cayuga County Sheriff’s Deputy discovered him allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol during a patrol late last month.

The arrest occurred on September 28, around 7:30 p.m., when a deputy noticed a cooler and suspected alcoholic beverages lying on Cutler School Road near Creech Road, according to Sheriff Brian Schenck. The deputy also saw a pickup truck stopped at the scene, with the driver, later identified as Robert J. Root, exiting the vehicle to retrieve the cooler.

After further investigation, authorities determined that Root was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody and transported to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building, where he was processed and released.

Root has been charged with first-offense driving while intoxicated (DWI) and aggravated DWI, both misdemeanors.
