Trump gains narrow support for tariffs, poll shows Harris still leads

Donald Trump’s plan to impose new tariffs on imports, including a steep 60% levy on Chinese goods, has garnered the support of 56% of U.S. voters, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll. The poll underscores Trump’s perceived strength on economic issues, though Vice President Kamala Harris maintains a five-point lead overall in the presidential race.

While Trump’s economic policies resonate with voters concerned about competition from countries like China, Harris is viewed more favorably on healthcare and infrastructure. The poll found that Trump leads on addressing inflation, with 43% believing he can lower everyday costs like groceries and gas.

Despite concerns from economists that Trump’s tariffs may slow the economy, the poll shows that his tough trade stance appeals to voters, particularly as both candidates emphasize economic recovery heading into the November 5 election.
