Hammondsport man arrested on child abuse charges following cyber tip and months-long investigation

A Hammondsport man was arrested on Tuesday following a months-long investigation by state police in Montour Falls.

James F. Hopkins, 44, now faces an array of charges including a felony count of promoting a sexual performance of a child.

The investigation began on February 7 after a Cyber Tipline report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children revealed that child sexual abuse material had been uploaded to a mobile messaging app.

Hopkins was charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance of a Child under 17 (D Felony) and Possession of Sexual Performance by a Child (E Felony).

He was taken to the Schuyler County Jail for CAP arraignment.
