Israel intensifies strikes on Gaza amid rising tensions with Iran

Israeli forces continued their military operations near Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Monday, even as international efforts intensified to broker a ceasefire and prevent a broader regional conflict involving Iran and its allies. Palestinian medics reported that at least 18 people were killed in the strikes on Khan Younis, with additional casualties in Gaza City and Rafah.

Hamas expressed skepticism about the latest peace talks mediated by Egypt and Qatar, set to resume Thursday, criticizing Israel’s lack of engagement. The group, which has faced heavy bombardment, urged mediators to push Israel to accept a ceasefire proposal based on U.S. President Joe Biden’s plan.

The conflict, now in its 11th month, has seen escalating violence, including Israel’s recent airstrike in Gaza and Iran’s vows of retaliation following the assassination of senior Hamas and Hezbollah leaders. The region remains on high alert, with the U.S. deploying additional military assets to the Middle East in response to the growing threat of a wider war.
