The FBI is investigating efforts to hack the campaigns of former President Donald Trump and the Biden-Harris ticket, officials confirmed Monday. The probe includes attempts to breach the email accounts of three Biden-Harris staffers and former Trump adviser Roger Stone. The Trump campaign has claimed the attack was orchestrated by an Iranian hacking group, citing a recent Microsoft report.
The extent of the breaches remains unclear, with the Biden-Harris campaign stating that they are unaware of any security breaches. Cybersecurity experts have long warned that foreign actors, including Iran, Russia, and China, may attempt to influence U.S. elections through “hack and leak” operations.
As the investigation unfolds, concerns grow over potential national security implications, particularly if the Trump campaign is reluctant to fully cooperate with federal authorities. The incident has reignited fears of foreign interference reminiscent of the 2016 election.
