Steuben County has declared a State of Emergency due to severe flash flooding, urging residents to avoid all unnecessary travel. Several roads are impassable, and emergency responders are stretched thin across the county. The Town of Greenwood has also imposed a local State of Emergency, restricting all traffic to allow emergency crews to operate without hindrance.
Emergency orders have been issued for the evacuation of the hamlets of Woodhull and Jasper, as well as the south side of the Village of Addison along the Tuscarora Creek. Flash floods have damaged property and pose a serious risk to residents, especially in Jasper, where leaking propane tanks have heightened the danger. A Red Cross shelter is being set up at Corning-Painted Post High School Fieldhouse for evacuees.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to move to higher ground immediately and avoid calling 911 unless in a true emergency. These orders remain in effect until further notice.
