Trump campaign targets Walz’s military record amid VP run

Republicans are attacking Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s military record after he was announced as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate. The Trump campaign, led by Sen. JD Vance, criticizes Walz for leaving the National Guard in 2005 before his unit deployed to Iraq.

Walz’s decision to end his 24-year military career to run for Congress is being framed by Republicans as abandoning his unit. Chris LaCivita, a senior Trump adviser, compared it to the 2004 attacks on John Kerry’s Vietnam record, calling Walz a “disgrace.”

The Harris campaign defends Walz, highlighting his long service and advocacy for veterans. They argue that his experience brings valuable insight to the Democratic ticket, countering claims of dishonesty about his military service.
