Vice President Kamala Harris is giving Democrats a boost in New York, where her polling numbers are easing concerns about the party’s standing in this key blue state.
A Siena College poll released Tuesday shows Harris leading former President Donald Trump by 14 points among likely voters, with a 53-39 margin.
This lead, although smaller than previous Democratic margins in the state, improves on President Joe Biden’s tighter leads of 8 to 10 points in earlier Siena polls, which had worried Democrats about potential low turnout.
Harris’s favorability rating stands at 53%, compared to Biden’s 42% in June, indicating her broader appeal among New Yorkers.
The poll also highlights the state’s political dynamics, showing Governor Kathy Hochul’s weak favorability at 39% and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand maintaining a steady lead against her Republican challenger Mike Sapraicone. Additionally, a state-level Equal Rights Amendment is set to be on the November ballot, with strong public support.
