Days after announcing he won’t seek a second term, President Joe Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office on Wednesday, urging unity and emphasizing the need to “pass the torch to a new generation.”
Biden, 81, said, “I revere this office, but I love my country more,” explaining that his decision was about prioritizing American democracy over personal ambition. He highlighted his belief that fresh, younger voices are now needed.
In his speech, Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris as “tough” and “capable,” endorsing her as his successor. He also outlined his remaining goals, including economic growth, protecting voting rights, and ending the war in Gaza, reaffirming his dedication to serving the nation until the end of his term.
