A new AP-NORC poll shows that nearly two-thirds of Democrats believe President Joe Biden should withdraw from the presidential race and allow another candidate to run. Only about 3 in 10 Democrats are confident in Biden’s mental capability to serve effectively as president.
The poll highlights the challenges the 81-year-old president faces, with 7 in 10 Americans overall thinking he should step aside. Younger Democrats, especially, are more likely to want Biden to bow out. Despite Biden’s attempts to rally support, his debate performance has left many Democrats dissatisfied.
The survey was conducted before the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but initial results showed no significant shift in Biden’s prospects. Biden remains confident he can turn things around, emphasizing that many voters have not yet focused on the election.
