The Democratic National Committee has delayed President Biden’s nomination by a week, responding to growing unease within the party. The virtual roll call will now take place in early August.
Top Democrats, including Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, pushed for the delay. They were joined by Rep. Adam Schiff, who urged Biden to drop out, citing concerns over his ability to defeat Donald Trump in November.
A recent poll shows nearly two-thirds of Democrats want Biden to quit the race. Rep. Jared Huffman, who helped organize the delay, called it “a positive step” but warned it may not fully address concerns about Biden’s viability.
