Former President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio will be his running mate for the 2024 election. Vance, 39, was chosen over other contenders, including Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
Trump praised Vance’s background in the Marine Corps and business, calling him the best choice for vice president. Vance has been a strong supporter of Trump, attending his trial and backing anti-DEI legislation.
President Joe Biden criticized the choice, claiming Vance and Trump want to raise taxes on middle-class families. Former Vice President Mike Pence, now a Trump critic, urged prayers for Trump after an assassination attempt at a recent rally.
