Officer Jamieson Ritter, 27, a native of Webster, New York, was shot and killed early on July 4th while serving in the Cleveland Police Department. Police arrested Delawnte Hardy, 24, on an aggravated murder charge in connection with the shooting.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. when officers attempted to arrest Hardy at a house on East 80th Street. Hardy tried to flee on a bicycle and fired at the officers, hitting Ritter, who later died at a local hospital.
Ritter graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School in 2015 and Syracuse University in 2019. He served as a second lieutenant in the Army National Guard and was deployed to Syria in 2022. Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd and Mayor Justin Bibb expressed their condolences and urged the community to pray for Ritter’s family and fellow officers during this difficult time.
