Steuben County adds on-call EMTs to Woodhull Fire District

  • Staff Report

Starting July 2, Steuben County has stationed two on-call EMTs at the Woodhull Fire Department to improve emergency response times in high-need rural areas.

The EMTs are available from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. This initiative addresses the decline in volunteer EMS workers and aims to provide faster medical assistance.

Officials say the county is also adding a 24/7 paramedic fly-car to move around and support local first responders. Although EMTs are county-paid, patients’ insurance will now be billed for services. Marshall emphasized that emergency calls should still be directed to 9-1-1.
