A historic marker recognizing Firebrand Books, a renowned feminist and lesbian press, will be revealed on The Commons on June 15.
The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. across from 141-143 East State Street, the former location of Firebrand Books. Scheduled speakers include Firebrand’s founder Nancy K. Bereano, historian Dr. Jeff Iovannone, and Ithaca Mayor Robert Cantelmo.
Firebrand Books, which operated from 1985 to 2000, published influential works by authors such as Alison Bechdel and Audre Lorde. The building received landmark status in 2022 to honor Firebrand’s contributions to women’s and LGBTQ history.
