The Cayuga County Office Building will stay closed until the end of August due to ongoing concerns about asbestos. An Asbestos Clearance Report received on June 3 prompted the county to seek further guidance from CSEA/Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) to ensure the safety of employees and the public.
Initial feedback from OSH indicated the need for a control mechanism to prevent future vermiculite migration. The county is also working with an architecture and engineering firm to conduct a full assessment and conditions analysis of the building.
“We have decided to keep the Cayuga County Office Building fully closed until the roof repair is completed, estimated for the end of August,” said Aileen McNabb-Coleman, Chair of the Cayuga County Legislature. Updates will be posted on the county website and shared with media outlets.
