A proposed water rate increase would add about $35 a year to the bill for a typical Lyons household using 50,000 gallons annually. The Wayne County Water and Sewer Authority outlined the proposed 2027 rates in an Oct. 28 letter to Lyons Town Supervisor Jim Brady.

The proposal would raise the water usage charge from $6 to $6.50 per 1,000 gallons in the authority's service area. The basic quarterly charge would rise from $35 to $37.50, according to the letter from authority Executive Director Martin Aman.

For a household using 50,000 gallons a year, the higher usage rate would add $25 annually, and the higher basic charge would add $10. The authority put the combined increase at about $2.91 a month.

The letter describes proposed rates; it does not establish that they have been adopted.

Sewer rates for the town of Lyons, both inside and outside the former village, would remain unchanged. The quarterly schedule lists $32 for 0 to 5,000 gallons, $6 per 1,000 gallons in the 6,000-to-100,000-gallon tier, and $5 per 1,000 gallons above 100,000.
