Spotify announces second price hike in less than a year

Spotify announced Monday that it will raise subscription prices in the U.S. to fund new features and improve user experience. The new rates apply immediately for new users, while current subscribers will see the changes in July.

The individual Premium plan will increase from $10.99 to $11.99 per month. The Premium Duo plan will rise from $14.99 to $16.99, and the Premium Family plan will go from $16.99 to $19.99. The student plan remains at $5.99. Spotify stated the hikes are necessary to continue investing in the platform.

Spotify previously raised prices in July 2023, citing similar reasons. Despite the increase, a free plan with ads remains available. Premium users benefit from ad-free listening, offline downloads, and more. In 2023, Spotify paid $9 billion in royalties but also faced significant layoffs, cutting 17% of its global workforce in December.
