Geneva is one step closer to appointing a new police chief following the resignation of Matthew Colton in March. Three candidates faced the public at a forum on Wednesday night, sharing their visions for the department.
The contenders include Geneva Police Lt. Ron Eveland, Waterloo Police Chief James Chechak, and retired New York State Police Trooper James McCormack. Each candidate highlighted their experience and plans to lead the department’s 32 full-time officers serving a population of over 12,000.
Eveland emphasized his familiarity with the department and commitment to stability. Chechak, a military veteran, discussed his rapid adaptation to leadership. McCormack pointed to his extensive law enforcement experience and lifelong ties to Geneva. The final decision on the new chief is pending.
