Newark man arrested with stolen car from Monroe County

  • Staff Report

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Village of Newark man following an investigation into a stolen vehicle reported from Monroe County. Deputies took Robert N. Wells, 31, into custody for multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol.

Deputies located the stolen vehicle on East Union Street in Newark and observed Wells operating it. Wells displayed signs of impairment and had open alcohol containers in the vehicle, which lacked an ignition interlock device. He refused a field sobriety test but submitted to a chemical breath test, showing a .06% BAC. Due to a prior DWI conviction in 2021 and a revoked driver’s license, Wells faced additional charges.

Wells was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and transported to Wayne County Jail for arraignment. Released on his recognizance, he was then handed over to Monroe County authorities for further processing.
