The New York Yankees opened a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Target Field and came away with a 5-1 victory to improve to 28-15 on the season.
New York fell behind 1-0 in the first inning on a solo home run but answered with two in the second, one in the third, and two more in the fourth. Giancarlo Stanton crushed his ninth home run of the season, Alex Verdugo had a two-run double, Anthony Volpe plated a run with an RBI double, and Oswaldo Cabrera chipped in a sacrifice fly.
Carlos Rodón tossed six innings of one-run ball while striking out six. The left-hander retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced. Ian Hamilton fired two scoreless frames before Clay Holmes recorded the final three outs.
The Yankees will try to clinch a series win on Wednesday at 7:40 p.m. with Marcus Stroman on the mound.
