Seven candidates on the ballot for Waterloo school board

  • Staff Report

Seven candidates have officially entered the race for three available seats on the Waterloo Board of Education, as confirmed by the filing deadline on Monday. The election, set for May 21, will determine who will fill these seats for the next three years on the nine-member board. Among the candidates are two incumbents, Andrea Bennett and Caitlin Ryan, both seeking a second term.

The candidate lineup also includes newcomers Stephani Krzysik, Ashley Davoli, Eileen Temple, Barbara Westerberg, and former village mayor John “Jack” O’Connor, all running for their first terms. The community will also vote on the school district’s budget for the 2024-25 school year during this election.

This election follows the announcement that Ellen Hughes, the board’s senior member and former president, will not seek reelection. The board members serve on an unpaid basis, dedicating their time to oversee various educational policies and district affairs.
