Lane closures as NYSEG begins gas line replacement near Ithaca

  • Staff Report

New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) initiated a significant infrastructure upgrade on Slaterville Road east of Ithaca, marking the start of a project to replace natural gas mains and service lines. This construction, slated to last 8-12 weeks, began setup operations last Friday, with substantive work commencing on Monday. The project will impact Route 79, extending from east of Burns Road to the vicinity of Bethel Grove Bible Church.

The work, undertaken by NYSEG’s contractor DDS Utilities, involves replacing outdated gas mains and connecting new service lines to properties along the route. Residents will be individually contacted to arrange the necessary work on their homes, including potential relocation of gas meters.

Motorists traveling along Slaterville Road will encounter lane closures managed by flaggers or automated signals, allowing traffic to flow one direction at a time, to ensure safety as the upgrades progress.
