Cayuga County has emerged as the leading agriculture producer in New York, surpassing all 62 counties in the state, according to the latest Census of Agriculture results.
Previously ranked second in 2017, Cayuga County has now overtaken Wyoming County, reaching $461.9 million in agricultural sales and ranking it 234th nationally.
According to The Citizen, the substantial growth in Cayuga’s agricultural output is largely attributed to its livestock, poultry, and product sales, which total $356.7 million.
This figure includes $320.8 million from milk alone, positioning Cayuga as New York’s premier dairy-producing county. The county also holds strong positions in the production of cattle, calves, and crops.
