The New York Mets (7-8) edged the Kansas City Royals (10-6), 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field to win the series.
The game was scoreless through seven innings until Harrison Bader gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the eighth with an RBI single. Brandon Nimmo followed that with a bases-loaded walk, extending the lead to 2-0. Then, Edwin Díaz closed it out in the ninth despite allowing a run.
Jose Buttó tossed six shutout frames while striking out nine. Adam Ottavino and Brooks Raley fired scoreless innings.
The Mets will head home to begin a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday at 7:10 p.m.
