The town of Sennett is set to host a public hearing to deliberate on a proposed law aimed at regulating solar energy projects within its jurisdiction. Scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, at the Sennett Town Hall, the meeting will also address updates to the town’s lodging regulations. This proposed solar energy law intends to support renewable energy production while safeguarding the community’s health, safety, and welfare.
In response to growing interest from developers in large-scale solar projects, the Sennett Town Board enacted a six-month moratorium on such initiatives last November. The pause was meant to afford the town time to assess the need for more comprehensive regulations to manage the burgeoning demand for solar energy while mitigating any negative effects on the local landscape, especially on agricultural land.
The upcoming regulations are designed to navigate the increasing push towards renewable energy within Cayuga County, including existing large-scale solar and planned wind projects, by considering both the aesthetic and environmental impacts of these developments on the community.
