Geneva kidnapper convicted of Elmira murder

  • Staff Report

Eddie Marte, already serving a 15-year sentence for a Geneva kidnapping, was convicted of murder in Elmira. After less than two hours of deliberation, a Chemung County jury found Marte guilty of both kidnapping and murder in connection to the January 2021 crime. The victim’s body was discovered three months later in a secluded area of Pennsylvania.

The conviction stems from a brutal incident where Marte, alongside Malik Weems, kidnapped and tortured a man in Geneva in April 2021. The victim was subjected to beatings with belts and cords and suffered burns from a heated knife. This violent act preceded the Elmira case for which Marte has now been convicted.

Marte is facing the possibility of life imprisonment without the chance of parole for his crimes. His sentencing for the Elmira murder is scheduled for July.
