The Buffalo Sabres got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Edmonton Oilers at KeyBank Center, snapping a three-game skid.
Buffalo (30-30-5) thought they won in overtime as Owen Power sniped one past Edmonton’s goaltender Stuart Skinner with two seconds left, but after the teams went into the locker rooms, the NHL reviewed the play, and it was deemed offside, sending the game to a shootout.
Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch found the back of the net in the shootout, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped two of the three shooters, including Connor McDavid.
Thompson also scored during regulation on the power play, his 19th of the season. Jacob Bryson tallied his first goal of the season, while Luukkonen made 30 saves.
Buffalo went 1-for-1 on the man advantage and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Sabres will continue their three-game homestand on Tuesday when they welcome the Detroit Red Wings for a 7 p.m. start.
