Long-abandoned Perkins restaurant finally demolished in Newark

The former Newark Perkins Family Restaurant, closed for 25 years, was demolished last week, marking the end of an era for the local community.

The Times of Wayne County reports that the building, which stood vacant longer than it was in operation, saw the removal of valuable items before being completely torn down.

The closure of this Perkins location is a chapter in the broader story of Perk Development Corp.’s bankruptcy, which saw the dissolution of the once-largest U.S. franchisee of Perkins Family Restaurants.

There are no immediate plans for the property.
