Newark Police Department announces crucial promotion

The Newark Police Department recently announced the promotion of Officer Brandon Salerno to the rank of Police Sergeant, effective February 5th. Sgt. Salerno, who began his law enforcement career in 2006 with the Clyde Police Department, joined NPD in 2009 after serving at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Over the years, he has contributed significantly as a crime scene evidence technician and firearms instructor, among other roles.

Sgt. Salerno, a certified police instructor and armorer, is recognized for his dedication and expertise within the department. His promotion comes as a testament to his hard work and the various accolades he has received, including a recent Life Saving Award. Married and a father of two, Salerno’s leadership is anticipated to greatly benefit the department, especially with the training of new recruits.

Mayor Taylor and Police Commissioner Stu Blodgett both commended Salerno’s promotion, highlighting the importance of promoting experienced officers within the department. His leadership is expected to be instrumental in guiding the department’s growth and the successful integration and training of new officers.
