The City of Geneva is contemplating the establishment of a residential drop-off waste disposal and recycling facility on its Doran Avenue property.
According to the Finger Lakes Times, this decision follows the termination of food-waste collection operations by Closed Loop Systems, a private company, last month.
City Council, led by Ward 3 Councilor Jan Regan, unanimously approved the exploration of transforming the site into a transfer station akin to the one operated by the Town of Geneva.
The resolution was passed during the Council’s December meeting, marking a significant shift in the city’s approach to waste management.
The city’s next steps involve a detailed analysis of the costs and operational requirements to manage not only yard and food waste but also recyclables, construction debris, and solid waste at the facility.
