Newark HS will host Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for holiday concert

The Newark Central School District is set to welcome the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) for a special holiday music performance at the Newark High School auditorium.

Scheduled for 7 p.m. on December 1, this event continues a long-standing tradition, marking the 22nd year the RPO has graced the Newark community with their holiday concerts.

Organized in partnership with Wegmans, Lyons National Bank, and the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce, the concert is eagerly anticipated by residents. Cynthia Briggs, NCSD Music Department Leader and Kelley School instrumental music teacher, expressed her excitement about the event, noting its significance as a cherished annual holiday tradition.

The concert will be conducted by Jherrard Hardeman, the newly appointed Assistant Conductor and Music Director of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, who is in his first season with the RPO. Hardeman, a rising talent in the symphonic and chamber music arenas, leads several RPO initiatives including the OrKIDStra family series, education concerts, community concerts, and a summer series. His impressive career includes appearances with numerous esteemed orchestras and leadership roles at various prestigious music institutions. Soprano Sandra Keerthi, acclaimed for her vocal prowess and dedication to music, will feature as the guest soloist. A native of Chennai, India, Keerthi has pursued her passion for music in the U.S., excelling in opera and having previously performed as a soloist with the RPO.

Tickets for the event are priced accessibly, with discounts for students and senior citizens, and are available for advance purchase at Lyons National Bank branches in Newark and Lyons, as well as at the Newark Central School District office. Adding to the festive ambiance, the NHS Jazz Band and Fusion Ensemble, under the direction of NHS instrumental music teacher Robert Humphrey, will perform in the gymnasium starting at 6 p.m. before the main concert. This event promises to be a delightful blend of community spirit and musical excellence, ushering in the holiday season with joy and celebration.
