Cornell University announces $55 million Meinig Fieldhouse

In a major athletic infrastructure development, Cornell University disclosed its intentions on Friday to construct a $55 million sports fieldhouse named after the former Board of Trustees Chair and alumnus, Peter C. Meinig.

The Meinig Fieldhouse, a spacious 91,950 square-foot establishment, is planned to be located on Robison Alumni Fields between Tower Road and Bartels Hall. Initial designs depict a one-story modern building equipped with a vast 120×60-yard indoor turf field.

Facilities inside the structure will cater to both NCAA lacrosse competitions and other campus activities, featuring amenities like team rooms, storage spaces, and a spectator area.

The university plans to kick off the facility’s construction in the fall of 2024, targeting a completion by 2026. Formal proposals await submission to the City of Ithaca Planning Board for review, according to The Ithaca Voice.
