Latest on teacher from NR-Wolcott who’s accused of sex abuse, endangering welfare of a child

Anthony Gill, a 33-year-old teacher from North Rose Wolcott Middle School in Wayne County, was arrested Tuesday night on charges of second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

The arrest came months after allegations surfaced in March 2023 when the school’s principal was informed, subsequently launching a dual investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff Office (WCSO) and the school district.

Gill, who was in his probationary period having worked at the school for about two years, was swiftly placed on administrative leave and terminated from his position a few days later. Prior to this, Gill had been employed at Nazareth University from 2015 to 2020.

The gap between the initial allegations and Gill’s arrest is attributed to difficulties the WCSO faced in contacting him for an interview.

Following his arrest, Gill was released on an appearance ticket, with police stating that given his termination and the ongoing investigation, he posed no immediate threat to the victim.

In response to the situation, the North Rose-Wolcott Central School District emphasized its commitment to student safety, noting that Gill’s employment had been promptly terminated in March after the allegations emerged. Gill is set to appear before the Village of Wolcott Court at an undetermined date.
