Rising costs muddy waters over Geneva’s proposed marina development

Mounting construction costs have rekindled concerns over Geneva’s proposed marina development.

During an early August meeting, City Council gave the greenlight an additional $59,000 for a local match if the city secures a second boating infrastructure grant tied to the near 80-slip project and Long Pier extension.

The Finger Lakes Times reports though the marina’s anticipated price tag has surged by $141,000 since 2018.

To date, Geneva has obtained over $2 million in state and federal grants for the venture, initially pegged at approximately $4 million in 2022.

Nevertheless, City Manager Amie Hendrix recently indicated the exact cost remains uncertain as engineers are still finalizing project bids.

At this point, City Councilors disagree about the total cost of the project, as well as the need for it.
