The former K&M DeMay Skate Park located adjacent to the Alex Eligh Community Center on East Avenue has been dismantled due to the deteriorating state of its wooden ramps.
The decision came after an extended deliberation of around 18 months over the cost implications of repairing the aging equipment. Mayor Jonathan Taylor affirmed the park’s declining condition and remarked on its diminished popularity, emphasizing the need for its removal.
Instead, the space is set to be transformed into basketball and pickleball courts.
Officials expect the project to launch this fall or by spring at the latest, emphasizing the importance of quality in the development: “We want to ensure that when we do it, we do it right.”
