U.S. Rep. Brandon Williams, representing the 22nd Congressional District of New York, is currently receiving treatment for an infection that developed after his heart bypass surgery two weeks ago.
According to The Citizen, a spokesperson for Williams confirmed on Thursday that the congressman had a “localized but serious infection,” requiring immediate intervention.
The treatment, involving an IV antibiotic regimen administered in Williams’ apartment, is provided by the medical team at George Washington University Hospital.
Williams underwent heart bypass surgery on July 12 at St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse, after doctors at Crouse Hospital identified a health risk. He returned to work just five days post-surgery, marking his first absence from votes since taking office in January.
