The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office announced this its integration into the nationwide OffenderWatch sex offender registry network.

Residents of Cayuga County, outside of the city of Auburn, now have the capability to utilize the Sheriff’s website to locate sex offenders in their vicinity, receive e-mail alerts from the CCSO, and download the complimentary OffenderWatch App to locate their child’s location and nearby sex offenders.

OffenderWatch, a leading sex offender registration solution used by over 4,000 law enforcement agencies across 39 states, assists local and state departments in maintaining registered offender records across jurisdictions. The platform also enables interagency collaboration and automatic community notifications through the Sheriff’s website, email alerts, and the free family safety app.

Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck added, “The biggest advantage of having this new software is the accessibility of information to those we have sworn to protect in Cayuga County. Citizens wanting to search for and track sex offenders can now receive real-time notifications. The free family safety app and email notifications will assist families in locating their child and nearby sex offenders. Anonymous tips regarding sex offenders can also be submitted through OffenderWatch.”

OffenderWatch serves to improve public safety by enabling different law enforcement agencies to collaborate on a single offender record. With over 900,000 registered sex offenders in the United States according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, accurate offender tracking is crucial. The free OffenderWatch Family Safety app, available on iPhone and Android devices, can be downloaded directly from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office website or the respective app stores.
