As the Weedsport Central School District’s Superintendent Shaun O’Connor prepares for retirement, a search for his replacement is now underway.
Dr. Brian Hartwell, the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES district superintendent, has been appointed by the school board as the consultant to steer this crucial search process, according to a June 30 news release on the Weedsport website.
O’Connor, who commenced his journey as a teacher in the district in 1989 and served as a superintendent for 18 years, announced his retirement in late June. He is set to step down on Jan. 1, 2024.
In their quest to find the most qualified leader, the Board of Education is inviting community members to share their perspectives. The district stresses the importance of stakeholder and community input for a successful search process, reinforcing its commitment to the selection of a leader who will effectively guide the district. The school board has launched an online survey to collect community insights and viewpoints regarding the superintendent search.
In the next stage of the process, individuals interested in assuming the superintendent role can submit their applications. They have been directed to email their applications to Dr. Brian Hartwell at [email protected]. The survey data will enable the Board of Education to gain a comprehensive understanding of the community’s expectations and preferences for the new superintendent.
