The Yates County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident where a Mennonite girl alleges a stranger attempted to abduct her on Tuesday night.
Sheriff Ron Spike reported that the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on McElwee Road.
The girl, who was riding her bicycle alone, told deputies that a man in a dark-colored van stopped, exited his vehicle, and grabbed her arm.
She managed to escape and fled to a nearby house, where she immediately dialed 911.
Deputies conducted a thorough search of the area following the girl’s emergency call but were unable to locate the suspect or his vehicle.
The individual in question is described as a white male in his mid-30s, wearing black shorts and a gray hat.
Sheriff Spike urged anyone with information relating to the incident to contact the authorities. Individuals can report information to 911 or the sheriff’s office crime tip line at 315-536-5558.
