A recent audit by the State Comptroller’s Office discovered that Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, an educational services organization serving students in Ontario, Wayne, Yates, and parts of Seneca Counties, has paid out nearly $26,000 in unearned wages to 40 employees.
The investigation further revealed that the organization is annually spending approximately $111,000 on timesheet review, approval, and manual data entry into their financial system.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has recommended that Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES take measures to streamline their payroll process, coordinate with collective bargaining units to modify their payment schedule, and take steps to improve the accuracy of their budget estimates.
This comes in response to the audit’s revelations of payroll inefficiencies and an ineffective budget development process within the organization.
