NYS Senate rejects Hochul’s nomination to lead Power Authority

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

In a setback for Governor Kathy Hochul, the state Senate declined to vote on the nomination of Justin E. Driscoll as the permanent head of the New York Power Authority.

It marks the second major nomination defeat Hochul has faced this year.

The progressive wing of the Senate, backed by climate activists and the SEIU 1199 labor union, expressed concerns that Driscoll’s ties to the fossil fuel industry made him unfit to lead the state’s largest power producer.

Despite the defeat, Driscoll will continue to serve as NYPA’s acting president and CEO, setting the stage for further conflicts in the future.
