State department of health begins repeal of COVID-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare workers

The New York State Department of Health has initiated the repeal of the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare workers.

The Department made the announcement on May 24, stating that the repeal process involves a 60-day public comment period, followed by consideration and approval by the Public Health and Planning Council.

During the repeal process, the Department won’t cite healthcare facilities for new violations of the mandate.

In response, the University of Rochester (UR) lifted its vaccine mandate for faculty, staff, and students on June 5.

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) stated that while it has started revising its COVID-19 vaccine requirements and policies for employees, it will maintain its current mandate until the State Department of Health officially releases new guidelines.
